Principles and Practice of Clinical Research (PPCR) Course 2012

The Principles and Practice of Clinical Research (PPCR) course is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive foundation in health research methodology. The course emphasizes principles of clinical research, research study design, practical aspects of clinical trials, health statistics, and disseminating clinical research. In addition to these topics, we will provide an introduction to the principles of basic science and bench work. Additional topics that will be covered include educational research, economic analysis, and current innovations in research. Participants will be provided with a comprehensive foundation in the present state of research methodology by learning about basic science methods, evidence based-medicine principles, levels of science, research ethics, funding opportunities, data management and budgeting. In addition to the official program, this course offers excellent opportunities to meet experts in the field and establish relationships with other colleagues. Multiple integrated panel discussions are also included with a special focus on resident research.

Canadian Orthopaedic Resident Review in Trauma (CORR-TRAUMA)

The CORR-TRAUMA course is designed to provide orthopaedic residents with a comprehensive orthopaedic trauma review. This three day course will cover aspects of orthopaedic trauma management over 5 topic areas: Shoulder and Elbow; the Forearm and Wrist; the Hip and Femur; the Knee, Tibia, Ankle and Foot; and the Pelvis, Acetabulum, Spine and Advanced Trauma Life Support. An exciting new component this year is a curriculum on pediatric trauma, embedded in each of the 5 topic areas. The format of the course will include lectures based on a “Top 10 Things You Need to Know” format, as well as small breakout case-based learning sessions. The small group scenario sessions will yield a high faculty to participant ratio, for the purpose of creating a dynamic learning environment. Sessions will be delivered by our highly regarded faculty, which has been compiled with representatives from universities across Canada. Accordingly, sections of this course will be offered in both English and French.

(CORR-RECON)

The CORR-RECON course is designed to provide orthopaedic residents with a comprehensive review of orthopaedic surgery. The 3-day course will cover aspects of orthopaedic surgery over five topic areas: Upper Extremity, Foot and Ankle, Hip and Knee, Spine Reconstruction, and Tumours. The course will include lectures based on a “Top 10 Things You Need to Know” format, which are highlighted by interactive panel discussions. The course also includes small breakout case-based learning sessions. The small group scenario sessions will yield a high faculty to participant ratio, which will create a dynamic learning environment. Sessions will be delivered by our highly regarded faculty, which has been compiled with representatives from universities across Canada. Accordingly, sections of this course will be offered in both English and French. Led by a renowned faculty comprised of leading orthopaedic surgeons from Canadian Medical School faculties, CORR-RECON offers an unparallel small group case-based learning environment.
