Co-Director
Mohit Bhandari
MD, PhD, FRCSC
Dr. Bhandari is widely regarded as a leading authority in translating orthopaedic research into clinical practice, particularly in evidence-based orthopaedics. A graduate of the University of Toronto, he completed his Orthopaedic training and a Master’s in Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics at McMaster University. To enhance his clinical trauma expertise, he trained top specialists in Los Angeles and Minneapolis. His clinical focus encompasses the management of complex lower extremity fractures and pelvis and acetabulum injuries, and his research contributions have earned him significant accolades, including a unique Canada Research Chair in Musculoskeletal Trauma.

Dr. Emil Schemitsch
MD, FRCSC
Dr. Schemitsch is a leading researcher in musculoskeletal injury and arthritis care, with work spanning trauma response, gene therapies, biomechanics, bone substitutes, and fracture healing. His research ranges from clinical trials to outcome measure development and modeling, with a focus on clinical application and health policy impact. As Chair/Chief of Surgery, he leads a team of 88 surgeons, 11 research scientists, and 86 adjunct faculty across Southwestern Ontario. Previously, he held key roles at the University of Toronto and St. Michael’s Hospital, including Professor of Surgery, scientist at the Keenan Research Centre, and Term Chair in Fracture Care Research.

Sushmitha Pallapothu
MSc, MBA (c)
Sushmitha Pallapothu is the Program Coordinator at Canada Medical Education (CME), where she oversees program development, operations, and coordination to enhance medical education initiatives. With a background in healthcare and business, she brings experience in clinical research, business operations, and process optimization. Currently pursuing an MBA, Sushmitha is passionate about integrating business strategy with healthcare education to improve efficiency and support impactful learning experiences for medical professionals.

Abbey Payne
B.H.Sc., PGCert PM
Abbey Weatherill is an experienced healthcare operations and project management professional with a strong background in customer relations, education coordination, and clinical program support. Currently a Customer Relations Manager at OrthoEvidence Inc., Abbey also serves as a long-standing Course Coordinator with Canada Medical Education. With prior roles at McMaster University, Queen’s University, and Halton Healthcare, she brings expertise in healthcare project implementation, stakeholder engagement, and program coordination.
